Faking an orgasm – how desirable is sex?

Faking an orgasm is something that happens to many women and the reasons for this can vary, although the practice is not recommended.

Researchers are identifying another, more serious reason for this phenomenon in women. A new study shows that some women fake an orgasm to speed up the end of unwanted sexual intercourse.

For the study, experts recruited 15 women aged 19 to 28 years. Participants answer questions related to their sexual activity for at least a year. All reported at least one time when they didn’t want to have sex but did it anyway.

The researchers clarified that none of the participants used words such as “rape” or “compulsion,” but many of the sexual experiences they described could be defined in this way. Women define it as “unwanted” or “unpleasant” sex.

They add that faking an orgasm is their way of feeling like they have better control in a particular situation, while at the same time helping them speed up the end of intercourse. They explain that they felt this was the only course of action.

Although the study was not large-scale, the fact that all participants shared similar experiences is alarming, the researchers said. They add that it goes without saying that sex should not be forced, no matter the circumstances.

The results of the study were presented at the annual meeting of the British Psychological Society, which deals with the psychology of women.
